As a homeowner, one of the most crucial features of a property is the roof. Being the first line of defense against the sun, rain, fire, and high winds of Southern California, a roof must be kept in good shape to provide protection to those living inside. Unfortunately, life circumstances can sometimes make it difficult to maintain and upkeep a home that families have sacrificed everything for. Some Long Beach residents are often unable to afford the cost of roof repairs or replacement when the time comes. That's why the City of Long Beach, California, offers a Home Improvement Roof Grant Program (HIRGP) to provide financial assistance to qualifying residential property owners. BYLTup works with and supports the HIRGP to make sure Long Beach residents have a dry and protected home.
The HIRGP provides financial assistance, up to $20,000 to income-qualified, single-family residential property owners in Long Beach who need roof repairs or replacement. The goal of the HIRGP program is to improve the quality of life for very low-income property owners, specifically those on a fixed income, such as older adults, by helping homeowners acquire a safe and code-compliant roofing system. BYLTup works with the program to offer affordable roofing solutions to customers who are approved through the grant program. This means that if a homeowner qualifies for the HIRGP, BYLTup can help them complete the necessary roofing repairs or replacements needed to make their homes safe, comfortable, and code-compliant.
Properties to be rehabilitated must be located in designated CDBG, PBNIS and R/ECAP areas within the City of Long Beach, CA. Additionally, the property to be rehabilitated must be a single-family home and must be owner-occupied. The owner-occupied property must be the owner’s primary place of residence. Total gross income of all household members over the age of 18 must be no greater than The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) guidelines.
